As big Exeter Chiefs fans, we were over the moon to be approached by Jack Nowell in 2020 to talk about his personal brand. As a player for both Exeter, England & The Lions, Jack has numerous achievements to his name, sponsorships, and partnerships to showcase, and insights to share. He’s a personality on and off the field and a firm fan favourite.
You’ll know that we’re advocates of personal branding at Optix, both in terms of an individual, and a business. Alastair, one of our co-founders, has just written about this exact topic as part of his work for the Forbes Business Council.
We’ve now launched Jack’s website (check it out) as the first step in our partnership, which is a hub of information about Jack as a player and as a person. Sports marketeers Creatitive explain; “Once you’ve established your personal brand or worked with an agency to develop your brand, the next step is to communicate it to the world.”
Clear to navigate for the user, and easy to update for Jack, we’ve built a site that will grow with Jack as he continues through his career. His brand has been given a logo (also created by us) and distinct feel, which can be used for anything he wants to venture into in the future.
Personal Brand in Sports
Where sports personalities used to be centred around the club, we’re seeing this become more about the individual than ever. Vida Creative sum this up by saying: “Personal branding is one of the most powerful tools for an athlete to access their targeted market. It determines how your fans, sponsors and the professional sports world perceive you, and how they remember/recognise you both during and after your sporting career.”
