Podcast Insights: June

A brief summary of some of the topics that were discussed on the More Than Digital Marketing podcast, in June.
Podcast Insights: June

June 2023 was a month of ground-breaking technological advancements and exciting developments across various industries.

From the Vision Pro by Apple, to Meta's open-source AI music generator, innovation was at the forefront. Additionally, the entertainment landscape witnessed a wave of anticipation with the release of Marvel's Secret Invasion, accompanied by discussions surrounding artificial intelligence.

So, let’s jump right in and take a look at some of our favourite stories from last month.

The Vision Pro by Apple

Apple, always at the forefront of innovation, didn't hold back in June 2023.

Their latest offering, the Vision Pro, should be a game-changer, taking accessibility and visual experiences to a whole new level.

With its advanced augmented reality (AR) features, users can now dive into immersive gaming, film and internet browsing experiences that will make you feel like you’re in Minority Report.

In Apple’s own words:

“Vision Pro can transform any room into your own personal theatre. Expand your movies, shows, and games up to the perfect size while feeling like you’re part of the action with Spatial Audio. And with more pixels than a 4K TV for each eye, you can enjoy stunning content wherever you are — whether that’s a long flight or the couch at home.”

Anyone up for watching Interstellar?

Meta AI and the Music Industry

In a ground-breaking move, Meta has made headlines by open-sourcing an AI-powered music generator, named MusicGen.

This exciting development, as reported by TechCrunch, has sent waves throughout the music industry.

By opening up this innovative technology to the public, this Meta AI aims to democratise music creation, empowering individuals to explore their artistic abilities and redefine the boundaries of composition.

This Meta AI move marks a significant milestone in the fusion of AI and creativity, offering a platform where musicians, both seasoned and aspiring, can work with an AI-powered genius to create new sounds, beats and melodies.

However, not everyone is thrilled about AI-powered music generators.

Critics have their concerns, and one of them is the fear of a creativity crisis. They worry that relying too much on AI-generated music will lead to a bland and cookie-cutter sound, and that the human touch, that raw emotion and personal expression that traditional musicians bring to the table, might be lost in the mix.

Would you listen to music produced by this Meta AI music generator?

BlueSky: The New Twitter?

In the ever-evolving world of social media, discussions surrounding BlueSky have gained momentum.

In an article written by TechCrunch, BlueSky aims to set itself apart with a deliberate departure from certain features.

Unlike Twitter, there are currently no hashtags, which have long been a central element of organising content. Additionally, direct messages have been left out of the equation, focusing on a more streamlined and straightforward user experience.

BlueSky seems to want to promote simplicity and a fresh approach to microblogging.

Just like Mastodon, BlueSky has captured the attention of those seeking an alternative to the controversial changes implemented by Musk, in the six months since he assumed control of Twitter.

From the removal of blue check marks for prominent users to other contentious alterations in features and policies, many high-profile individuals are now experimenting with BlueSky and leaving Twitter.

According to data from data.ai, BlueSky has had 375,000 downloads from the Apple App Store.

Have you used it? Will you use it?

Marvel's Secret Invasion and the AI Backlash

Last month, superhero fans were thrilled by the highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Secret Invasion, a new series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, alongside the excitement, debates erupted concerning the opening credits of the show, which was 100% created by AI.

This sparked a conversation about the ethical implications and potential backlash of AI-driven creativity in the entertainment industry.

As AI continues to blur the lines, Marvel’s Secret Invasion has provided a backdrop for exploring the complex relationship between technology and art.

Whether you agree or disagree with the AI opening or not, Marvel’s Secret Invasion has explored these themes and serves as a catalyst for further introspection within the entertainment industry, and beyond.
